The Daimler Motor Company Limited was an independent British motor vehicle manufacturer founded in London by H J Lawson in 1896, which set up its manufacturing base in Coventry. The right to the use of the name Daimler had been purchased simultaneously from Gottlieb Daimler and Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft of Cannstatt, Germany. As of 2011, the brand appears to be dormant.
The Daimler Motor Company Limited is still registered as active and accounts are filed each year though it is currently marked "non-trading".
All the Daimler shares were purchased from BSA by Jaguar Cars in 1960. After the introduction of the Daimler DR450 new models used Jaguar bodies with Daimler grilles and badging. Daimler remains in the ownership of Jaguar Cars which now belongs to Tata Group of India.
Before 5 October 2007 Jaguar, while still controlled by Ford, reached agreement to permit then de-merging DaimlerChrysler to extend its use of the name Daimler. The announcement of this agreement was delayed until the end of July 2008 and made by Jaguar's new owner, Tata. This agreement might have substantially reduced the price paid by Tata.

Die vorherige Beteiligungs-Gesellschaft Daimler Motor Syndicate Ltd., die 1893 gegründet wurde, gilt als Beginn der britischen Automobil- und Nutzfahrzeugindustrie. Schon 1891 erwarb F. R. Simms die Lizenz für Herstellung und Verkauf des Daimler-Motors in Großbritannien und weiten Teilen des Commonwealth of Nations. 1904 zwang Kapitalmangel zur Neugründung des Unternehmens unter demselben Namen: Daimler Motor Company Ltd. Seit September 1910 wurde das Unternehmen als Daimler Company Limited ein Teil der BSA-Gruppe. Am 29. Mai 1960 übernahm Jaguar das Unternehmen und nutzte den Namen fortan für große Chauffeurslimousinen (bis 1992) sowie für besonders luxuriös ausgestattete Versionen der Jaguar-Limousinen.
Nachdem Ende 1989 die Ford Motor Company Jaguar übernommen hatte, kaufte die Daimler AG im Oktober 2007 Ford einen Teil der Namensrechte für 20 Millionen US-Dollar (rund 14 Millionen Euro) ab. Die Vereinbarung besagt, dass sie den Namen lediglich als Handels- oder Firmenbezeichnung nutzen darf, dauerhaft seien keine Namensrechte übertragen worden.
